Biography

Ivo Silvestro is a journalist and lecturer at the Faculty of Communication, Culture, and Society at the Università della Svizzera italiana. Born in Locarno in 1978, he graduated in Theoretical Philosophy from the University of Milan in 2003. In 2016, he earned a PhD in Philosophy with a dissertation focusing on the influence of metaphors in the debates concerning the patentability of genetic material. In January 2023, he completed a First-Level Master’s Degree in Science Health Communication from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. Silvestro works as a journalist for the daily newspaper laRegione and has served as an editor, while also collaborating weekly with Ticino7, the website Ticino Scienza, and the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation. From 2022 to 2024, he worked in the Institutional Communication Service at USI. His areas of competence include Argumentation, Linguistics, Semiotics, Journalistic Writing, Media Journalism, Media Writing Techniques, and Science Journalism.
