Biography

Ivo Tews utilizes crystallography to study molecular interactions, focusing particularly on large dynamic macromolecular complexes and time-resolved techniques. He is a member of the CCP4 project which develops crystallographic software and chairs working group 2, engaging with Synchrotron Science at the Diamond Light Source and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. His research interests are broad, encompassing natural products biosynthesis, particularly the complex cascade catalytic steps in vitamin B6 biosynthesis and the characterization of structures and reaction intermediates in large pyridoxal phosphate syntase complexes. He also investigates bacterial biofilms and their RedOx-regulated phosphodiesterase activity, contributing to understanding their dispersal mechanisms to address chronic infections. In cancer immunology, he collaborates with the Cancer Immunology Southampton group to use a structure-based approach in developing novel cancer therapies. Tews is involved with various research projects, including the GloPID-R partnership in Korea focusing on drug design for bacterial biofilms and has made significant contributions to completed projects sponsored by various research councils and organizations.
