Biography

Ivy Lynn Bourgeault, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa and holds the University Research Chair in Gender, Diversity Professions. She leads the Canadian Health Workforce Network and the Empowering Women Leaders in Health initiative. Dr. Bourgeault has garnered an international reputation for her research on the health workforce, particularly through a gender lens. Her past projects have examined the integration of migrant health workers and provided a comparative perspective on issues in the primary maternity care workforce. Recent projects focus on care relationships in home long-term care and the psychological health and safety of professional workers. She has served as a consultant for provincial Ministries of Health, Health Canada, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the OECD, and the World Health Organization. Her board experience includes roles at the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative and the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, in addition to editorial positions with international journals such as Human Resources for Health and Frontiers in Sociology. She was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in September 2016 and received the University of Ottawa Award for Excellence in Research for the 2016/17 academic year.
