Biography

Iwijn De Vlaminck trained in applied physics with a Ph.D. from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, followed by postdoctoral work in single molecule biophysics at Technische Universiteit Delft. His research has significantly advanced sensitive blood tests for diagnosing organ transplant rejection, including the widely used Karius blood test for screening infections, now employed in over 400 hospitals. De Vlaminck's innovations also include RNA liquid biopsy technologies for monitoring inflammatory diseases and spatially mapping RNA in tissues, as well as highly multiplexed imaging methods that map the biogeography of the human microbiome. He is an elected fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and has received notable awards including the NIH New Innovator and NIH MERIT awards. Additionally, De Vlaminck is a co-founder of Kanvas Biosciences and Romix Biosciences.
