Biography

Professor Izzat Darwazeh is the founding Director of UCL's Institute of Communications and Connected Systems (ICCS), comprised of 130 members. Since 2006, he has held the chair in Communication Systems at UCL. His previous appointments include positions as a senior lecturer at UMIST in Manchester and as a research fellow at the University of Wales-Bangor. He was a visiting scientist at CERN from 2004 to 2014. Professor Darwazeh obtained his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Jordan in 1984 and both his MSc and PhD from the University of Manchester in 1986 and 1991, respectively. He has pioneered techniques in optical wireless and mobile communication systems and has published over 300 scientific papers. His research capabilities extend into ultra high-speed circuit design, microwave integrated circuit design, and application of electronic systems in agricultural settings. He is a founding member of the ETSI specification group sub-THz communications and has served as a consultant and advisor for numerous major organizations, including the United Nations and the European Commission, while acting as an expert witness in various patent litigation cases. Professor Darwazeh is frequently interviewed on technology topics in both UK and international media.
