Biography

J. Brandon Dixon is a Woodruff Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, serving as the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering since August 2009. He earned his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University in 2006, where he developed an imaging system for measuring lymphatic flow and estimating wall shear stress in contracting lymphatic vessels. His research focuses on bioengineering, particularly in the areas of lymphatics, lipid metabolism, biomechanics, biomedical optics, image processing, and tissue engineering. Dr. Dixon directs the Laboratory for Lymphatic Biology, which aims to develop and apply engineering technologies to address fundamental problems in lymphatic biology and disease, thereby creating therapeutic approaches to restore lymphatic function. His notable work involves in vivo lymphatic imaging and tissue-engineered model systems, yielding insights into how lymphatics interact with mechanical and biological environments in health and disease. Dr. Dixon has been instrumental in securing diverse funding for projects investigating lymphatic physiology and biology, as well as establishing innovative microphysiologic model systems to study lymphatic malformations. Furthermore, he is a co-founder of LymphaTech, a start-up focused on technologies for lymphedema assessment and management.
