Biography

J. Westerweel obtained his M.Sc. degree in Applied Physics in 1988 from Delft University of Technology and earned his Ph.D. degree in 1993, graduating with honors. He has been a Research Fellow at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and has worked as a visiting scholar at Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 2001, he was appointed as the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AvL) professor and since 2005, he has held the chair of Fluid Mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering (3mE) at TU Delft. His research interests include turbulence, dispersed multiphase flows, microfluidics, biological fluid dynamics, and fluid dynamics in sports. Additionally, he serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Springer-Nature journal 'Experiments in Fluids.'
