Dr. J C Scholtes

Biography

J.C. Scholtes is a prominent academic in the field of text mining and natural language processing. He has been an extraordinary chair at the Department of Knowledge Engineering at Maastricht University since 2008 and serves as a senior research fellow at the Dutch School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS). Scholtes has a rich history in both academia and industry, having previously served as President and CEO of ZyLAB, a pioneer in e-discovery software, where he oversaw significant deployments including in high-profile investigations such as the UN War Crimes Tribunals and the FBI's ENRON case. He obtained his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Delft University of Technology and a Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics from the University of Amsterdam. His expertise spans a range of topics within artificial intelligence, focusing on advanced natural language processing applications, including machine translation, chatbots, and speech recognition. Scholtes has also been involved in various educational endeavors and serves on the board of IPRally, while being a venture partner at ENDEIT Capital. His ongoing research contributes significantly to the field and influences both academic and practical applications of text mining.
