Biography

J.D. Schramm joins USC Annenberg with over 20 years of experience teaching graduate-level courses at Stanford, Columbia, and NYU, focusing on communication management. As a mentor, he supports leaders in defining and sharing their difficult stories. Schramm holds an EdD in higher education leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and a BFA in theater from Emporia State University in Kansas. His 2020 Wiley-published book, 'Communicate Mastery: Speak with Conviction, Write with Impact,' showcases his insights on effective communication. Schramm has spoken at TED and TEDx events and has coached numerous writing initiatives, with his work appearing in prominent outlets like the Washington Post and San Francisco Chronicle. A sought-out speaker and educator, he has collaborated with major firms and organizations including the Aspen Institute Presidential Fellows and Facebook. Actively involved in the LGBTQ community, he focuses on inclusion in higher education and advocates for suicide prevention, foster care services, and HIV/AIDS research. Schramm finished writing his next book, 'Bridge Back to Life: A Journey from the Edge of Death to the Center of Life,' published in 2022. He resides in San Francisco with his husband, Reverend Ken Daigle, and their children.
