Biography

J.F. Marc des Jardins joined Concordia University in 2005 as an Assistant Professor after completing a postdoctoral degree at the Conflict Resolutions Institute of Asian Research at The University of British Columbia. He teaches courses on Buddhist traditions, including Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese, and South Asian, as well as Chinese Popular Cults and Daoism. His research focuses on Tibetan Bon religion and local societies, having conducted field-based research in the Sino-Tibetan borderlands since 1991. Dr. des Jardins employs a combination of anthropological field methods, textual analysis, and historiography in his work. He has published several key texts, including a monograph on the history and esotericism of Buddhism and translated significant works within the Everlasting Bon tradition. In 2011, he was promoted to Associate Professor and is expected to become a Full Professor in 2025.
