J Taylor Harden is a gerontologist nurse and director emeritus of the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence, a non-profit association of schools and nursing institutions dedicated to providing quality health care for older adults. With a rich background in aging research, practice, and policy, he has significantly contributed to faculty leadership development. Harden previously held roles at the National Institute on Aging, including assistant director and acting deputy director from January to October 2008. His research expertise includes clinical interventions and the risk and resilience of older women and minority health issues, particularly health disparities. Harden has received accolades such as the NIH Director’s Award three times for his work on the NIA Health Disparities Strategic Plan. He has been an active member and/or chair of several national committees, including the Committee on Preventing Dementia and Cognitive Impairment, and served on the National Advisory Council on Aging at the National Institutes of Health. He is a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Nursing.
