Biography

J.T. Wood holds the position of Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering and serves as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies at Western University. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from McMaster University. Before joining the Faculty of Engineering at Western in 1999, he completed a one-year Post-doctoral Fellowship at McMaster University, where he researched strengthening mechanisms in high electrical conductivity alloys. Subsequently, he became the Director of Research and Development at Cymat Aluminum, focusing on the commercialization of aluminum foam production. Professor Wood's research interests are centered on Lightweight Structural Materials, particularly examining process-structure-property relationships in die-cast magnesium alloys and polymer composite materials.
