Biography

Dr. J. Zhou is an associate professor in the Section of Biomaterials and Tissue Biomechanics at Delft University of Technology. He earned his PhD in 1991, focusing on research related to the extrusion of rapidly solidified aluminum alloy powders. After completing his PhD, he continued as a research associate affiliated with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. His research interests have expanded to include aluminum and magnesium alloys, metal matrix composites, and materials processing techniques. In recent years, Dr. Zhou's research and teaching interests have shifted towards materials engineering applications in biomedical fields, particularly in orthopedic applications and additive manufacturing. Currently, he is concentrating on biodegradable metals, alloys, and composites, utilizing powder-bed-based additive manufacturing processes. His expertise encompasses the development of porous materials for bone implants and the mechanical properties and biodegradation of these materials.
