Dr. Jaap Nienhuis

Biography

Jaap Nienhuis is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University specializing in Global Change Geomorphology. His research focuses on the study of coastal environments, particularly how tides, waves, and sea level affect coastal areas. He utilizes fieldwork and numerical models to investigate and predict coastal changes, including coastal hazards such as flooding, subsidence, and erosion. His work encompasses various environments, including coral reefs, tidal lagoons, Arctic coastlines, barrier islands, and river deltas. Nienhuis is committed to applying his research to enhance understanding of how coastal systems respond to climate change and human interventions.
