Dr. Jaap Oosterlaan

Biography

Jaap Oosterlaan is a Full Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the director of the healthcare innovation program at Emma Children’s Hospital, Amsterdam University Medical Center. With a background in health sciences and a completed PhD in psychology, Oosterlaan has established a significant profile in Paediatric Neuropsychology. He has helmed numerous research projects focused on coupling excellent patient care with scientific research, particularly for pediatric conditions such as ADHD and congenital health issues. Oosterlaan has published over 450 international peer-reviewed papers, achieving an h-index of 85 and supervising more than 50 PhD students, several of whom received their degrees with cum laude honors. His research employs advanced brain imaging techniques including EEG and MRI, exploring how various conditions affect brain structure and function, while also developing interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive capabilities in children. As a board member of the Amsterdam Reproduction & Development Research Institute and leader in various national and international research consortia, he is actively involved in shaping the future of pediatric neuropsychological care. Oosterlaan's commitment extends to working within frameworks that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing the importance of integrating science with innovative healthcare solutions.
