Biography

U.S. Ambassador Jack C. Chow served in pioneering roles in public service and global health diplomacy. He was the Assistant Director-General at the World Health Organization focusing on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Chow held the rank of ambassador as the Special Representative for Global HIV/AIDS under Secretary of State Colin Powell and served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Health Science. As a U.S. diplomat with ambassadorial rank, he was appointed to lead the public health mission and played a key role in the American diplomatic efforts to establish the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, which aimed to counter global infectious diseases and bioterrorism threats. In his previous positions, Chow served as a senior official in the State Department's global affairs office and worked with the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, the Public Health Service of HHS, the Fogarty International Center of NIH, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In the private sector, he worked as a consultant for global health at the RAND Corporation, McKinsey & Company, and PRTM/PwC. Chow joined the inaugural faculty of Heinz College's Washington DC program, teaching at campuses in Pittsburgh and Australia. He was also a Sharkey Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Affairs and a fellow at the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative in 2013, focusing on national strategic policies.
