Dr. Jack Elias

Biography

Jack Elias, M.D. is the Waldemar Von Zedtzwitz Professor Emeritus at Yale University School of Medicine where he has served as the Chairman of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and raised in Philadelphia, he earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. His academic career commenced with roles at Tufts-New England Medical Center, followed by positions at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he contributed significantly to the Section of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine. In 1990, he relocated to Connecticut as head of the Section of Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine at Yale. Dr. Elias has been a member of prominent national committees, including the National Institutes of Health and American Physicians Association, where he held leadership roles. His research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of lung injury and repair, securing continuous NIH funding since 1982. He is currently the Principal Investigator for multiple NIH grants and is recognized for his extensive contributions to the fields of Allergy and Immunology, and Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine.
