Biography

Jack L. Goldsmith is the Learned Hand Professor of Law at Harvard Law School. He is a noted scholar in areas such as presidential power, terrorism, national security, and international law, and has authored books including 'Trump: Reconstructing the Presidency' and 'Hoffa’s Shadow: Stepfather, Disappearance Detroit, Search Truth'. Prior to his tenure at Harvard, Goldsmith served as Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel from October 2003 to July 2004 and as Special Counsel to the General Counsel of the Department of Defense from September 2002 to June 2003. His academic career includes teaching positions at the University of Chicago Law School from 1997 to 2002 and the University of Virginia Law School from 1994 to 1997. Goldsmith holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and both a B.A. and M.A. from Oxford University, along with a B.A. from Washington & Lee University. He also clerked for Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy and worked for the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal.
