Biography

Jack B. Soll is the Gregory Mario & Jeremy Mario Distinguished Professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, where he has been a faculty member since 2005. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, specializing in behavioral science economics. Before joining Duke, he was on the faculty at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and served as a visiting professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Soll teaches courses on decision making, managerial effectiveness, leadership, negotiations, and statistics, and he has extensive experience in educating executives in day MBA programs. His research primarily focuses on the psychology of judgment and decision making, particularly the phenomenon of overconfidence, which is the tendency for individuals to believe they can predict outcomes with more accuracy than current research suggests. His work also explores group decision making and its implications for behavioral decision research in public policy. He has published extensively in reputable scholarly journals including Science, Management Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Experimental Psychology.
