Biography

Jack Zupko, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Alberta. He specializes in medieval philosophy, metaphysics, ethics, and philosophy of religion. Zupko has published numerous research articles and five significant books, including 'John Buridan: Portrait of a 14th-Century Arts Master,' which was named a Choice Outstanding Academic Book in 2003, and 'Duns Scotus on Time and Existence,' co-authored with Edward Buckner. His translation and commentary on Scotus' 'Questions on Aristotle's De interpretatione' was published in 2023. Zupko served as the medieval subject editor for the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy in 1998 and held editor positions with the Journal of the History of Philosophy from 2005 to 2020. Before joining the University of Alberta in 2013, he was the Chair of the Philosophy Department at the University of Winnipeg. His teaching interests include medieval and Renaissance philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of religion, history of philosophy, history of logic, and ethics.
