Biography

Professor Jackie Wahba is a noted applied labour economist at the University of Southampton, focusing on economics, international migration, and refugees. In recognition of her significant contributions to economic policy, she was awarded the OBE in 2020. She has served as a member of the UK Migration Advisory Committee from 2012 to 2021 and is a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Additionally, Wahba was recently elected to the council of the Royal Economic Society for the term 2020-2025 and has been involved as a council member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). She is also a research fellow at IZA and CReAM, and actively participates in the Economic Research Forum Board of Trustees and the Migration Observatory Expert Advisory Board at Oxford University. Over her career, she has advised various international organizations, including the European Commission, World Bank, UNDP, African Development Bank, and OECD. Professor Wahba runs a personal webpage featuring her research endeavors and is engaged in several research projects related to migration and economic development. She is actively involved in multiple research groups, including the Centre for Population Change and the Applied Economics Centre.
