Biography

Jacky Tianmi Pei is an enthusiastic teacher in secondary and tertiary mathematics. Her research integrates her passion for encouraging an appreciation of mathematics and explores the middle school experience of mathematics education. Jacky’s research examines the psychology behind subject choice, focusing on how students are motivated to pursue the highest level of mathematics they believe they are capable of. Alongside her research, Jacky teaches Data Science in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, as well as pedagogy units for preservice secondary teachers in the School of Education and Social Work. Her courses include EDSE4051 - Pedagogy Professional Practices 3 & 4th Year B. Education unit, EDSE3082 - Pedagogy Professional Practices 2 & 3rd Year B. Education unit, DATA1001 - Foundations of Data Science, MATH1005 - Statistical Thinking, and MATH1011 - Applications of Calculus. She is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the Australian Association for Research in Education and the Mathematics Association of New South Wales.
