Biography

Jaco Tresfon is a trained cognitive psychologist with a passion for Human Factors and Safety, cultivated through various roles in consultancy, research internships, and commercial settings. He completed his PhD research focused on patient safety in hospital wards, utilizing theoretical frameworks from Safety-II Resilient Healthcare. His research involved ethnographic action research with ward nurses, aiming to understand their perspectives on normal work processes and the quality of safety instruments. With extensive fieldwork experience, he has tackled the everyday challenges faced in hospital care. Currently, Jaco serves as a lecturer at the Centre for Safety in Healthcare within the Section of Safety & Security Studies. His areas of expertise include qualitative research methodology, patient safety, and safety science, alongside interests in ethics, philosophy of science, epistemology, nudging, and decision-making in human-computer interaction.
