Biography

Jacob Fredrickson is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Edinburgh Law School specializing in the histories of gender, law, and emotions in modern Britain. His work notably explores intimate histories that alter the understanding of law, gender, and sexuality in the context of broader transformations that shaped twentieth-century Britain. Fredrickson's forthcoming book, 'Crimes of Passion: Violence and the Making of Modern Intimate Life in Britain,' presents a new history of the transformation of intimacy in modern Britain, examining the aspects of violence and the threats of violence as central themes. His research contributes to a growing transnational interest in the relationship between love and law, focusing on how Anglophone legal systems have grappled with comprehending and disciplining emotions. Currently, he is involved in collaborative research on the 'Hurt Feelings Law Project' alongside Professors Chloe Kennedy and Katie Barclay, as well as Dr. Alice Krzanich.
