Dr. Jacob Hibel

Biography

Jacob Hibel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Davis. His research primarily investigates the effects of large-scale immigration on children and schools, emphasizing the community-level impacts of living and attending school in areas with varying levels of immigrant populations. Hibel's work has specifically examined discrepancies in the identification of disabilities among immigrant children, as well as the neighborhood influences on the academic achievements of Mexican American children. His research also addresses educational stratification, early childhood achievement gaps, and disparities in special education services. In his studies, Hibel explores how demographic changes impact educational policies and practices, aiming to improve access to resources for immigrant children. He holds a PhD in Sociology and Demography from Pennsylvania State University and has published extensively on topics related to immigration, education, and social inequality.
