Biography

Dr Jacob Mackenzie is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton where he focuses on electro-optics and solid-state laser systems. Starting his career in the electro-optics industry, he pursued a PhD on novel solid-state laser architectures and scaling techniques. Since joining the university, he has contributed significantly to the field with over 150 conference and journal papers. His work spans various applications such as materials processing, space-borne LIDAR, and silicon photonics. Dr Mackenzie has served on numerous solid-state lasers conference committees including CLEO Europe and SPIE Photonics Europe. He is also a senior member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and has held the position of Editor in Chief for the Springer Nature journal Applied Physics B: Lasers and Optics since 2021.
