Biography

Jacob Østergaard is an internationally recognized research leader in the field of renewable-based energy systems. He is committed to making substantial contributions to the green transition, leading the development of technology for future sustainable energy systems. His research has advanced integrated, market-based, flexible, and resilient energy systems, focusing on power system stability, flexibility markets, offshore wind power hubs, and the application of quantum computers in energy systems. As the head of the Division of Power Energy Systems at DTU Wind Energy Systems, he oversees a division with more than 100 staff members working across six sections, addressing areas such as energy markets, analytics, power systems, Power-to-X, energy storage, distributed energy systems, and e-mobility. Østergaard is a strong believer in collaboration between industry and academia and has significant experience with large-scale experiments in real-life energy systems. He has served on various academic boards and committees, including a recent term as a member of the Danish Energy Commission and a current position on the board of Energinet, the Danish Transmission System Operator. His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
