Dr. Jacob Schmidt

Biography

Jacob Günther Schmidt is a prominent academic affiliated with the Section of Fish and Shellfish Diseases at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research focuses on fish immunology, particularly in relation to sustainability goals outlined by the United Nations. He has extensive international experience, having studied fish taxonomy and physiology at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and aquaculture, fish nutrition, and immunology at the University of Bergen, Norway. Schmidt received his PhD from DTU Food in 2013 and holds an MSc in Biology from the University of Aarhus. His research expertise includes areas such as immunotoxicology, PCR, flow cytometry, wound healing, and image analysis, particularly related to salmonids and cyprinids. He has engaged in various projects aimed at advancing aquaculture practices and developing disease detection systems in aquatic environments. In recognition of his contributions, Schmidt received the Poster Prize at DTU Vision Day in 2010. He is actively involved in numerous research projects and has presented at several conferences, furthering knowledge in his specialized field. Schmidt's collaborative efforts contribute significantly to the understanding and development of healthier fish farming practices.
