Dr. Jacobo Bielak

Biography

Jacobo Bielak is a Hamerschlag University Professor Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University in the College of Engineering, specializing in earthquake engineering, seismology, and computational mechanics. His research includes seismic provisions and soil-structure interaction, which have contributed to the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). Bielak is a recognized member of several prestigious organizations, including the National Academy of Engineering and the American Society of Civil Engineers. His accolades also include the Gordon Bell Prize for Special Accomplishment Based Innovation. An honorary member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and a corresponding member of both the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican Academy of Engineering, Bielak's academic credentials include a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology, an M.S. from Rice University, and a civil engineering degree from the National University of Mexico.
