Biography

Jacqueline L. Angel is a Professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Wilbur J. Cohen Professor of Health Social Policy at the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Ph.D. from Rutgers University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Demography and Aging at Pennsylvania State University. Her research interests include health, retirement issues, and their impact on older minorities, particularly the Hispanic population and Mexican American families. Dr. Angel has published extensively in the area of aging and the life course, advising non-governmental organizations that provide essential services to the elderly. She focuses on the role of social policy in the well-being of aging Latinos and vulnerable groups. Angel has authored five books on these topics and has served on multiple governmental and professional committees. Notably, she was elected a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America in 2000 and has chaired the NIA Behavior Social Science Aging Review Committee.
