Biography

Dr. Jackie James completed her MD in internal medicine, with subspecialty training in endocrinology and metabolism, and earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Toronto. She has been a proud member of the community of clinical teachers and educators at the University of Toronto since joining the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in 1995. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to the Faculty of Medicine via various educational leadership roles and outstanding academic service in support of the MD program and postgraduate education. Dr. James has received several prestigious awards, including the University of Toronto Colin R. Woolf Award for Excellence in Course Coordination in 2005 and the Banting Diabetes Centre, Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year Award in 2014. She was also honored with the W. T. Aikins Award for Course or Program Development Coordination in 2017. As a director of the Wightman-Berris Academy and Vice-President of Education at Sinai Health System, Dr. James has played a vital role in improving healthcare delivery and enhancing educational research experiences for health professionals. Her goal as division director is to nurture and support successful diabetes and metabolic research programs at the university, strengthening person-centred care in collaboration with affiliated university sites. Her general practice focuses on endocrinology, with a special interest in managing Type 1 diabetes in transitioning adult care.
