Biography

Jacqueline Kinghan is a Professor of Law at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Social Change. She is the Co-Director of the Glasgow Open Justice Centre and the Emma Ritch Law Clinic. Jacqueline holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh and an LLM from Harvard Law School, granted as a Kennedy Memorial Trust Scholar. She completed her PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London, with an AHRC CHASE studentship in 2018, and was called to the Bar in England and Wales in 2007 as a Middle Temple Queen Mother Scholar. Her expertise includes access to justice, clinical legal education, and legal aid, reflected in her teaching and research exploring the values and professional identities of social justice lawyers. She has authored the monograph 'Lawyers, Networks and Progressive Social Change: Lawyers Changing Lives', published by Hart in 2021. Jacqueline has previously held a Senior Lectureship in Law and Social Justice at Newcastle Law School and has engaged with charities and NGOs to leverage legal frameworks for societal benefit. Her research interests involve the intersection of social movements and legal tools, and she is currently co-authoring a textbook on clinical legal education set for publication in 2025. Jacqueline has a history of involvement in various legal and human rights initiatives, contributing to the development of legal education and access to justice.
