Jacqueline Linnes is the Marta E. Gross Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Her work emphasizes the application of fundamental microfluidic principles to biological assays, developing point-of-care diagnostics to address global health issues. Her lab focuses on advances in paper microfluidics and molecular biosensors, alongside human-centered instrumentation design that enables sensitive, robust, and rapid diagnostics for informed healthcare decision-making. Dr. Linnes has significant translational research experience, including co-founding and managing early-stage companies and leading user-response assessments with Engineers Without Borders. She has co-developed mobile diagnostics, wearable devices, and airborne pathogen inactivation tools, as well as water purification technologies, with users in Nicaragua, Kenya, Zambia, and Haiti. Her educational experience includes teaching undergraduate capstone design, graduate-level instrumentation measurement for point-of-care diagnostics, and human-centered design workshops globally. Before joining the faculty at Purdue University, she earned a BS in Engineering from Purdue University, a PhD in Bioengineering, and a Graduate Certificate in Global Health from the University of Washington. She completed a Fogarty Engineering Fellowship in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and continued her postdoctoral training in point-of-care diagnostics at Boston University in Dr. Catherine Klapperich’s lab.
