Biography

Jacquelyn Pless is an Assistant Professor at MIT Sloan School of Management, with a focus on Technological Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Strategic Management. Her research interests span innovation economics, energy and environmental economics, strategic management, and climate finance. Jacquelyn's work delves into how firms and policymakers can foster innovation for social progress, specifically focusing on energy and environmental innovation. She is particularly interested in understanding how firms respond to externalities and the implications for innovation, policy, and strategy. Jacquelyn teaches courses on innovation strategy and entrepreneurship, as well as a class on climate and energy ventures. Recognized for her contributions, she was named one of the “Best 40-Under-40 Business School Professors” by Poets & Quants in 2022 and was selected as a Distinguished Fellow for Stakeholder Capitalism and ESG Investing at the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. Before joining MIT, Jacquelyn held positions in both the private and public sectors, working on energy policy issues and assisting high-growth technology companies in design and management of reorganizations. She holds a Master’s and PhD in Mineral and Energy Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Vermont’s Honors College.
