Dr. Jacques C. Després began learning to play piano at the age of three and started lessons at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec. His extraordinary talent was noticed by the legendary Canadian conductor Wilfrid Pelletier. He won the Montréal Symphony Orchestra competition in 1978 and the Prix d’Europe in 1981 at the Académie de musique du Québec. Després has had a varied artistic life, performing as a soloist with orchestras, and as a recitalist, chamber musician, and educator. He has presented master classes at leading institutions across North America and served as the Daniel Ericourt Artist-in-Residence at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. He has been a member of the Music Department at the University of Alberta since 2000. His performances and recordings have received critical acclaim worldwide, highlighting his contributions to music.
