After completing a B.A. and M.A. in classical archaeology at Laval University (Québec), Jacques Perreault began his doctoral studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Social Sciences in Paris. He obtained his Doctorate in 1984 and was admitted as the first Canadian member of the French School of Archaeology in Athens, a prestigious center for Greek archaeological research. In 1987, he was appointed Director of the Canadian Institute of Archaeology in Athens. Returning to Québec in 1992, he taught for a year at Concordia University before being hired by the Université de Montréal in 1993, where he led the Centre for Classical Studies for ten years. Perreault has directed and participated in various archaeological missions in France, Syria, and Greece. He currently directs the Canadian archaeological mission at Ras el Bassit, Syria, and co-directs the Greco-Canadian mission at Argilos, Greece. He has been invited to teach and give lectures at numerous universities around the world. His publications focus on the interactions between Greeks and non-Greeks, trade in the ancient Mediterranean, Greek colonization, colonial urbanism, and various aspects of Greek production, including ceramics.
