Biography

Jacqui Horan is a courtroom communication researcher and Associate Professor at Monash University. She is a member of the Victorian Bar and an expert on juror behavior. Jacqui has published numerous articles in national and international journals focused on improving jury trials. She led a groundbreaking project that gained rare access to 100 Australian jurors to investigate their perceptions of expert evidence, with findings published in 'Expert Evidence in Criminal Jury Trials' (2016, OUP UK). Jacqui is a regular speaker to the judiciary and legal profession and has appeared in media as a jury expert, including in the 2024 SBS drama 'The Jury: Death Staircase.' She also contributed to the development of jury processes as an academic member of the Victorian Courts’ 'Jury Advisory Group' and 'Jury Directions Advisory Group.' Her work has notably focused on enhancing sexual assault trials, and she co-edited the book 'Sexual Assault Trials: Challenges and Innovations' (2025). In 2024, she visited the Solomon Islands to assist in training police and prosecutors in child sexual abuse prosecution, highlighting her commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals aimed at improving justice systems.
