Biography

Jaehee Yi is a Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria. Originally from Korea, Jaehee's experiences growing up in poverty have shaped their academic focus on social work and community advocacy. They earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan and a PhD in social work from the University of Southern California. Before joining the University of Victoria in 2022, Jaehee worked as a professor at the University of Utah's College of Social Work for 11 years. Their research interests include Epistemology, visual narratives, LGBTQ+ issues, immigration, cancer survivorship, grief and loss, and participatory action research. Jaehee has been involved in various advocacy efforts, including women's rights and health futures work, and is currently preparing a new textbook on social work and human development from a decolonial perspective, set to be published in 2025. In their personal life, Jaehee enjoys cooking and baking for family and friends, viewing food as a vital part of storytelling.
