Associate Professor Jai Tree is a researcher at the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at the University of New South Wales. His research program focuses on bacterial pathogens that cause disease, with a strong emphasis on understanding non-coding RNAs that control virulence gene expression. His lab utilizes a range of molecular techniques, including UV-crosslinking and high-throughput sequencing, to explore the regulatory mechanisms of non-coding RNAs in pathogenic bacteria. Tree's work includes studying enterohaemorrhagic E. coli O157, a human pathogen responsible for various gastrointestinal diseases, and investigating the roles of non-coding RNAs in antibiotic resistance, particularly in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). He holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Queensland and has held several postdoctoral positions at prestigious institutions including the University of Edinburgh. He actively supervises PhD and Honours students and lectures in various microbiology courses.
