Jaime Gómez Rivas is a full professor and chair of the Surface Photonics group at the Department of Applied Physics, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His areas of expertise include electromagnetism, optics, and nanophotonics with a focus on THz photonics. His research group works on strong light-matter coupling at optical THz frequencies and its potential applications in optoelectronics. The group's research is primarily experimental, concentrating on resonant nanostructures to maximize coupling strength. Jaime received his PhD in 2002 from the University of Amsterdam for research on light transport in disordered media. He was a postdoctoral researcher at RWTH Aachen University in Germany from 2002 to 2005, where he worked on THz spectroscopy and made significant contributions to the semiconductor THz plasmonics field. In 2005, he became a project leader at the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF), developing the concept of plasmonics nanoantennas for solid-state lighting. He joined TU/e as a part-time professor in 2010 and has been a full professor since 2018, receiving several prestigious grants and serving on panels for significant funding agencies. He is also an associate editor for the Journal of Applied Physics.
