Biography

Jaime Grunlan is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and holds the Leland T. Jordan ’29 Chair Professor title. He is recognized as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. Grunlan has a Ph.D. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Minnesota, awarded in 2001, and a B.S. in Chemistry from North Dakota State University, completed in 1997. His research interests are primarily focused on polymer nanocomposites, exploring innovative solutions in nanoparticle dispersion, polyelectrolyte complexes, and multilayer thin films. He also investigates environmentally friendly flame retardant treatments, gas barrier thin films, and materials with high dielectric breakdown strength and conductivity. Grunlan's extensive industry experience includes significant roles as Research Engineer and Senior Research Engineer at Avery Dennison Corporation. His contributions to the field have been recognized through multiple accolades, including being an ACS Division Polymer Chemistry Fellow and an American Chemical Society Fellow in 2023. In addition, he received several awards for research impact and was honored with a Doctor honoris causa from the University of South Brittany in France in 2018.
