Biography

Dr. Jair L. Siqueira-Neto has over 15 years of international experience in discovering and developing therapies for infectious diseases, including research on SARS-CoV-2, the agent causing COVID-19. His work has led to the identification of drug candidates that have progressed from pre-clinical to clinical stages, notably Pyronaridine for Chagas disease and SLV213 (K777) for COVID-19. He leads the Siqueira-Neto Lab, which focuses on validating screening assays that facilitate the interrogation of large libraries of small molecules and natural products, aiming to identify hits with relevant biological activity for treating human diseases, particularly those related to infectious diseases. The lab also explores host-pathogen interactions to enhance understanding of disease pathogenesis and identify new druggable targets. Dr. Siqueira-Neto has engaged with the public in non-scientific talks to explain principles of COVID-19 immunization and vaccination.
