Dr. Jake Chakasim

Biography

Jake Chakasim is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies at Carleton University. He is a Doctoral Candidate in Planning at the University of British Columbia, focusing on community design and the application of Indigenous Planning Principles. His research examines issues of resiliency, internal migration, and displacement within Indigenous communities. Chakasim actively collaborates with firms in Ontario and British Columbia and is cross-appointed at the Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism. He is an active member of the RAIC Indigenous Task Force, contributing to the development of a National Architecture Policy that centers on the inclusion of Indigenous peoples in the built environment. Chakasim has spoken at numerous conferences on Indigenous design and has been involved in high-profile architectural exhibitions, including Canada's participation in the Venice Biennale.
