Dr. Jakob Dal

Biography

Jakob Dal is a leading consultant in the Department of Endocrinology at Aalborg University Hospital and an associate professor at Aalborg University. He is a clinical researcher with a particular interest in endocrinology, focusing on pituitary diseases and conditions related to sex hormones. His research encompasses a wide range – from rare endocrine disorders such as acromegaly, prolactinomas, and hypothalamic obesity to more common areas like diabetes and metabolic disorders. Methodologically, he employs registry-based research, epidemiology, biomarker studies, genetics, and clinical intervention studies. He has significant experience with both mono- and multicenter projects, Delphi processes, and patient involvement. A central focus area is acromegaly, where Jakob has made substantial contributions through epidemiological analyses, clinical treatment studies, and research on the disease's sequelae. He has also been responsible for several large national cohort studies that have mapped changes in disease prevalence, treatment, and prognosis. Additionally, he participates in international collaborations regarding the genetic and molecular mechanisms of pituitary tumors, particularly focusing on mutations in the AIP gene. Jakob is also active in research on gender identity and endocrine treatment of transgender individuals, having co-founded a large Danish cohort of transgender persons and researching the relationship between gender-affirming hormone treatment, quality of life, and biochemical markers.
