Biography

Originally from Oakland, California, Jakub Benes earned a BA in International Studies from Middlebury College in Vermont and a PhD in European History from the University of California, Davis. After completing his doctorate, he held a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Birmingham from 2012 to 2015. He has taught at both Oxford University and the University of Birmingham before joining University College London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) in autumn 2019. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the United Kingdom since June 2019. His research primarily focuses on topics within European history.
