Biography

Jameelah Imani Morris is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Western University, specializing in Sociocultural Anthropology. Her research interests encompass Black Geographies, Historical Anthropology, Political Mobilization, and Black Feminist Thought, with a focus on socio-political dynamics in Latin America, particularly Colombia. She is also involved with the flagship journal Transforming Anthropology and has received multiple grants, including from the Social Science Research Council and the Fulbright-Hays Program. Morris emphasizes the importance of student empowerment in her teaching, encouraging critical analysis of socio-political structures. Her courses cover topics such as race, gender inequality, and youth activism, integrating interdisciplinary methods and critical theoretical perspectives on historical memory and urban development. Morris previously held a Pre-doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship at the Carter G. Woodson Institute for African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia and has extensive experience in the non-profit sector.
