Biography

James D. Auran, MD, is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He completed his BA in Biology from Harvard College and obtained his MD from Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Auran has extensive clinical interests in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, eye trauma, intraocular lens complications, and dry eye. He has authored and co-authored more than 30 publications in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Auran conducted his residency training at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and subsequently completed fellowship training in Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery. He is recognized among Castle Connolly's Top Doctors and has received multiple distinctions, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award and the Philip Knapp Memorial Teaching Award. Dr. Auran served as Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem and is currently the Associate Program Director of the Columbia University Ophthalmology Residency. His contributions to the field include co-founding and presiding over the American Society of Ophthalmic Trauma, focusing on the prevention and treatment of eye injuries.
