James Bell is an artist researcher specializing in queer trans art, activism, culture, and social histories. He has a background in production and has been involved with artist-led contemporary arts organizations. His interests include arts education, exhibition making, access equity, and social justice within the context of contemporary art. James graduated with a BA (Hons) in Time Based Art and an MFA from Duncan Jordanstone College of Art & Design, Dundee in 2011. He has served as a committee member for artist-led spaces such as Generator in Dundee and Rhubaba in Edinburgh. His experience also includes being a Producer for Learning at Collective in Edinburgh, where he developed and delivered the organization’s learning program, and serving on the Board of Baltic Street Adventure Playground in Glasgow. He has taught courses at the Glasgow School of Art and is currently the Course Organiser for Art Context 1, along with teaching Visual Cultures in the BA (Hons) Fine Art program. His research explores contemporary art and queer cultures focusing on archival, educational, and historiographic perspectives in contemporary art.
