Biography

James P. Chandler, MD, FACS, is a faculty member at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine since 1997. He completed his residency in neurological surgery at Northwestern University and underwent fellowship training in cranial base microvascular surgery at the Instituto Neurologico De São Paulo (Brazil) and George Washington Neurological Institute. Dr. Chandler holds the position of Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and the Lavin/Fates Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery. His clinical practice focuses on providing compassionate care to patients with brain and spine tumors, particularly skull base tumors, utilizing minimally invasive procedures. He specializes in various tumor types including gliomas, meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, and acoustic neuromas. Dr. Chandler has performed over 6,000 successful brain surgeries and has created the Skull Base Laboratory at Northwestern, a uniquely equipped facility for neurosurgical residents. His dedication to education is evident in his organization of an annual international course on surgical techniques, attracting trainees and attendings from around the world.
