Biography

Professor James Clark holds a degree in Applied Biology from the University of Bath and a PhD in Surgery from University College London. He began his career as a Research Associate in the Cardiovascular Division at King’s College London in 2003. Over the years, he has focused on ischaemic pharmacological preconditioning and the development of carbon monoxide releasing molecules (CORMs), which led to the establishment of a start-up company, HemoCORM. In February 2010, Professor Clark transitioned to a Lectureship in Aerospace Physiology and was later promoted to Reader in Human & Applied Physiology in 2019 and then to Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology Education in 2022. His teaching emphasizes the integration of applied physiology within hyperbaric diving medicine and the mechanisms that regulate cardiac function in health and disease. He has demonstrated his commitment to enhancing academic skills in data analysis and presentation. His research outputs include numerous contributions to peer-reviewed journals, emphasizing his active role in advancing cardiovascular research and education.
